Blues eyeing new attacker ahead of Pafos clash

da dobrowin: The Blues are gearing up for a Champions League tie against Pafos this evening, and they will no doubt be expected to take all three points against the Cypriot side, who have won just one of their opening six games in Europe’s elite competition.

Ahead of the clash, Liam Rosenior made it clear his side have a chance of winning the Champions League this season, should they put the necessary building blocks in place, saying: “I’ve said to the players, if we focus on each game, not think too far ahead, perform as well as we possibly can, I never limit the ambitions of my group, no matter what group I’m working with.

“But those games and those trophies don’t exist if you don’t do the job now. We have to focus on this game and, hopefully, another three points puts us closer to that target.”

However, if the west Londoners are going to be crowned champions of Europe for the third time, they may need to bring in some additional quality during the January transfer window, considering they are currently sixth in the Premier League table.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Chelsea have now opened talks over a deal for Real Madrid’s Arda Guler, having been in persistent contact to ask about the Turk’s situation, as they look to position themselves as the favourites in the race for his signature.

However, Arsenal are also working to position themselves as frontrunners, and a deal could be on the expensive side, with Madrid potentially set to hold out for €90- €100m (£79m – £87m), and a deal may not be possible until the summer.

Interestingly, there is a feeling the Spanish club could now be willing to sanction a departure this summer, although the 20-year-old isn’t currently keen on leaving.

Courtesy of his impressive showings in the league, the youngster was also lauded by scout Jacek Kulig just a few days ago.

With Chelsea intent on signing exciting youngsters, Guler could be the perfect addition to their squad this month, but the rival interest from Premier League leaders Arsenal could be an issue.
