Former Southampton attacker Jay Rodriguez impressed despite not finding the net in West Bromwich Albion’s 2-0 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates on Monday night, and some Saints fans suggested the club should have kept hold of him.
Having struggled to reclaim his place as a regular starter for the south coast outfit following the devastating injury he suffered against Manchester City in 2014, both parties agreed that it would be best for Rodriguez to leave this summer and he completed a move to the Hawthorns in July.
The 28-year-old was particularly effective in the first half in north London on Monday, including one move when he was denied what looked like a certain penalty before getting up and seeing his shot tipped on to the post by Gunners goalkeeper Petr Cech.
Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on Rodriguez’s performance via social media, and while some feel that he is “better than Austin”, others say it is ‘criminal that the club got rid of him’.
